Stereoscopic 3D Projector System - 3D IMAX Cinema Installations
The Duality 3D projection system provides affordable, high quality stereoscopic projection, allowing large audiences to watch immersive stereo 3D video using inexpensive passive polarizing glasses. Each system is tailored to meet individual requirements and can be supplied with front or rear screens in a wide range of screen sizes, ceiling or floor mounted. This type of 3D display sets the standard for effective 3D, surpassing all autostereo (glasses-free) systems, and is based on the same technique used in most 3D IMAX cinemas.
The Duality passive 3D projection system is based on a simple concept; integrating two low cost LCD or DLP projectors to achieve stunning 3D stereo images at a fraction of the cost of specialist active 3D projectors. The Duality system is suited to both real-time interactive visualisation and replay of stereoscopic 3D video. It is also suitable for projecting live 3D video from standard or high-definition cameras. Duality systems are available for purchase or rental.
Features
Inputs: Dual stream left-eye right-eye video, formats supported include DVI, VGA, component, S-video, component, HDTV.
Resolutions supported include SGA, XGA, SXGA, UXGA and above depending on requirements (see info below).
High-transmission polarising filters. A key differentiator of our system. These filters allow 50% more light through than standard photographic polarisers and also do not introduce colour distortions.
Brightness from 2,000 lumens to 10,000 lumens and above depending on requirements.
6-axis adjustable mounting system, with both lock down and quick swap fittings.
Available with ether linear polarization or circular polarizing filters.
Comes with 100 pairs of plastic/card polarising glasses.<.li>
Wide range of lenses available 0.8:1 - 3:1 (throw to width ratios).
Front or rear projection screen options, with a wide range of sizes, 4:3 or 16:9 aspects.
Option to include an active to passive converter, splits single channel active stereo (as used with stereographics) into two channel stereo. This is seldom required as there are generally other less expensive options. Please ask for details.
Can be supplied for fixed or portable installation, ceiling or floor trolley mounted.
Totally platform and software independent (SGI, SUN, HP, PC or any UNIX/Linux/Windows based system).
Available with motorised filter mounts to remove filters from lenses whilst not projecting in stereo.
Featuring high-transmission glass polarising filters, highly adjustable mounting systems and screens which can be wall mounted or free-standing offering maximum flexibility and ease of use.
The systems can be easily switched between 3D and 2D to allow display of ordinary 2D content. Matrix switchers can be supplied which allow a wide range of inputs to be connected.
Choosing the right Duality system for your application
Dimensional Studios will guide you through choosing the best specified Duality system for your particular application and budget, the main choices are as follows:
Resolution: This choice is usually dictated by the particular computer system and software in use. In the case of PAL/NTSC video playback, SVGA resolution projectors are recommended as they most closely match PAL/NTSC video resolution. Resolutions as high as 1920 x 1080 are possible. Remember that with this type of 3D display, eye each gets the full resolution.
Brightness: The choice of projector brightness is an important one and one which Dimensional Studios have great expertise in. When doing stereoscopic projection, many factors have to be taken into account to calculate the most suitable brightness of projector. These factors include: light attenuation by polarizing glasses and filters, screen size, screen gain, ambient light levels, lens choice, and audience size. Dimensional Studios take all these factors into account for a particular installation and make sure that brightness levels fall well above industry standards. Overall system brightness is calculated in foot-lamberts and tells us the perceived brightness of the screen, a much more useful figure than quoting the projector lumens.
Installation type: Duality systems come in trolley, ceiling/wall mounted and portable versions. Screen choice include a range of screen surfaces and frames suitable for front and rear projection. These include tripod mounted screens for portability and electric roller screens for discreet installations. We can provide concept visualisations if necessary, showing how the projection system will fit into your space. These are not only useful for giving an idea of how the screen will look in situ but also for showing projector throw distances and highlighting any problems with shadow casting on the screen (for front-projection installations).
We also undertake multi-wall and hi-resolution tiled Duality installations. Multi-wall systems are used for immersive virtual reality or wraparound video playback. See the image below for an example of a 3-wall Duality installations. In this particular installation, the centre display is rear projected, whilst the side walls are front projected due to space restrictions.
Glasses: Polarising glasses are available as deluxe, black plastic and card models. Card glasses can be customised with your logo and contact details.
